We are very experienced in moving household goods abroad.
We have an export license registered in our company name so can ship your household goods to your new home.
We are members of a few international movers associations which give us access to reliable tried and tested contacts worldwide who can help with clearing goods at the port of entry and then onward trucking to your home. Items requiring special permission for export from Thailand
Apart from the usual restricted items such as weapons, drugs and alcohol, there are some items which require special permission to export from Thailand, these are religious images and hard wood products.
Religious images are three dimensional images of deities or symbols from any religion be it Buddhist, Christian or Hindu for example – it also includes Khmer figures. As this is a mainly Buddhist country, it mostly concerns Buddha images. It is possible to obtain permission from the Fine Arts Department at the Chiang Mai Museum of full intact Buddha images, it takes about a month to process the documents, ideally you will need an invoice from the shop where you bought the piece and they must also have a license for selling religious images. Part images such as heads, hands, Buddha images missing feet or other parts can’t be shipped, this is strictly adhered to by customs at all ports in Thailand, all courier services and even the post office. Customs will hold your whole shipment and then there will be storage charges applied until permission is gained to access the port and further permission to open your container and remove and destroy the items in question. Please don’t try to hide images as all containers from Thailand are X rayed before being loaded on the boat.
Any hard wood furniture requires a hardwood license which is obtained from the shop where you purchased the item. If they are imported pieces you will need proof of import which we then present to customs when the shipment is being cleared at customs. If you show us the pieces we will be able to guide you on the best course of action. There are several hardwoods that are barred for export, any attempt will have serious consequences. The same especially applies to unfinished logs or planks of wood.
Other items to be wary of are animal based products, be it fur rugs, horns or other animal parts. Ivory is strictly illegal.
Beauty products or liquid items and food stuffs also require permission.
When we come to visit we can explain all of this in detail.
We will estimate the volume and work out the cheapest way to get your goods shipped to your new home. It may take a few days to get the quote from our counterparts in the destination country.
There are 2 ways to ship, as a part or a full container. For full containers the sea freight varies from month to month depending on season and fuel charge.
If you’re ok with the quote we will then arrange a day to come and pack your things and make up an invent of your goods.
If you like we can hold your goods in our storage warehouse for free for up to a month, after this there will be a small charge. This allows you time to find your new property if you haven’t already decided.
Shipping times vary but to give you an idea main ports in Europe, US or Canada take 1 month, Australia and India take 3 weeks.
We do provide insurance which costs 3.5% of the declared value of goods to be insured. For electrical goods there is an extra charge of 0.3% which covers damage to the internal electrics even if the item looks physically ok.
This insurance doesn’t cover Pirates but that is very rare.
If you have any questions just send us an email or give me a call.
Wherever you are coming from we can arrange your move from door to door using our network of accredited international movers.
First we will have our team come and do a survey and work out the cheapest way to ship your goods.
We will then use the invent to see what import tax you need to pay if any and give you a full door to door quote. The only thing we can’t quote for is if customs do a random inspection which also might incur storage charges. This is very rare though.
We can provide a full clearing process into Thailand and delivery to your new home in Chiang Mai or whichever city you are moving to or store your goods until you are ready.
We can provide full insurance on your goods, see above.
